Cell Phones and Responsibility

Last weekend i was spending time in Vermont with a bunch of staff people that i work with. It was sweet! i went downhill skiing for the first time in my life, attempting a few black diamonds and even a few unforgiving snowdrifts. It was a real riot.

But i didnt have cell phone reception...

So i received a message from a certain dear friend who will go unmentioned because i still like him. And he said, "I'm disappointed that your phone went straight to voicemail."

So i'm here to complain. Complain about the added responsibility having a cell phone gave me. Now that i have a phone that i can take with me anywhere, i am now required to be immediately reachable by everyone. Even when i'm in a faraway land with no cell phone reception, even though i may not have wanted to keep my phone on in the wilderness, i still answer to the unspoken requirement of being at everyone's fingertips!

Boo on that. i dont have to live up to you, you vicious piece of communicative equipment. You are the tool for my purposes, not the other way around!
